Debbie Zilili Greek, b. 2015

Debbie Zilili’s paintings pull influence from Abstract Expressionism but invoke a new dramatic use of movement and boldness of color. Her blocks of color morph into one another, which bring a tension and conflict to her compositions. Summer, 2021 showcases aggressive brushstrokes that push bright colors in different directions, but restrains them with darker black, brown and grey outlines. This Kantian dynamic of bright light encapsulated in dark is an intentional philosophical exploration by the artist.
