Diane Novetsky

Works
Biography

My abstract paintings describe sinuous forms that radiate light through vibrant color harmonies. Serpentine shapes suggest the female form and an organic sensuality

The shapes become increasingly visceral as internal organs and joints such as the heart and pelvis are referenced. I’m interested in symmetry and its association with the iconic compositions found in sacred art. Symmetry balances the high energy of the color and the tumbling arabesque forms. The work departs from perfect symmetry as centralized forms uncoil and morph in space, and collage-like figures appear to tumble. The effect combines the earthy, sensual, and otherworldly.

I’m highly engaged in the physical process of painting and the unpredictability of fluid acrylic paint on canvas. The color palette runs saturated and bold ––from the renaissance skies of ultramarine blue to the candy color pink of anime. The optically rich surface contains a variety of matte and glossy finishes. Rounded contours My recent paintings funhouse scenes of my imagination.
